Bacon Genealogy
Last Updated March 2023

From New York to France with English Knights & purported Shakespearean writer- my Bacon linage is one of my oldest, imaginative, intelligent, and interesting!

My earliest known Bacon & 26th great grandfather was Grimbaldus The Norman*. He was born in modern Normandy, France, probably to a man named Anchetal (they were born before surnames were in use). Grimbaldus died after 1120 in Letheringsett, Norfolk, England.

It has been said that Grimbaldus fought with William the Conqueror. However, the Norman Conquest began in 1066, 4 years before he was born. It is possible his father Anchetal was a part of it, though there is no documentation of that.

His son & my 25th great grandfather was Ranulphus/Reynolds de Bacon. It is said that he was the first user of the surname Bacon (no surname was used prior to this). Bacon derives from the word Beech (as in trees). The Normandy Estate was covered with these trees.

The next down the line is Roger, Ranulphus' son. He was my first Bacon born in the young country called England [1152 in Baconsthorpe, Norfolk].
